Feedback From The  Floods Affected Communities

As the winters are fast approaching, most flood-hit families are still sleeping under the open sky, in tents or makeshift shelters, often no more than flimsy plastic sheets. South Asian Climate Outlook Forum (SACOF) has indicated that the coming winters in Pakistan will be unusually cold owing to torrential rains and floods this year. Therefore, HDF calls out its supporters and donors for help to provide immediate relief in form of blankets, warm clothing, energy foods, and heaters, especially to the most vulnerable population including, children, women and elderly. HDF will also be distributing animal fodder to help the affected communties sustain their livelihoods, and install solar lights and heaters.  

Furthermore, as part of its rehabilitation plan, HDF plans to remove standing flood water quickly and as safely as possible from flood-stricken areas before any reconstruction takes place. Dewatering is a critical factor in recovery operations following a flood. If water remains accumulated, there’s a fear of outbreak of water-borne diseases resulting in more loss of lives. Urgent dewatering is also necessary for the next wheat sowing season.
