EDUCATION AND LITERACY

Through this fundamental program, we aim to provide quality education to children in marginalized communities. Our team works hard to ensure learning is an enjoyable experience for the children. The education program is designed to help them in decision making by developing their critical thinking and analytical skills. Teaching civic sense is also an integral part of the program to mold them into becoming productive members of the society.

We lay special emphasis on gender equality and community participation while keeping into account the local norms and culture. The parents are kept involved in their children’s schooling process through Parent-Teacher Associations so as to encourage community participation.

Under this program, we have been establishing and maintaining non-formal and formal schools for both primary and secondary levels, conducting enrollment campaigns for HDF schools as well as facilitating enrollment of students in other schools. Aside from building our schools with modern facilities, we also provide contemporary training to our teachers by conducting regular teachers training programs and workshops to improve their teaching skills.

HDF recognizes the potential of students, particularly those who demonstrate excellence, achievement, and promise, and helps them to access opportunities they might not have had without financial assistance. The HDF THANKS Scholarship is a performance-based scholarship introduced for students. Through this scholarship program, we seek to promote a healthy, competitive learning environment amongst the students and instill in them a high degree of confidence. This annual scholarship plays a critical role in encouraging promising students to pursue their educational goals so that they can contribute positively towards the socio-economic development of the society.

Dr. Abdus Salam Scholarships (sponsored by Maria-Helena Foundation Canada) are merit based scholarships offered to students (science scholarship to girls who are in Class 9 in HDF Schools) who obtain highest marks, within their cohorts from the same school, in the Middle School Board Examination. Each scholarship’s worth is Rs. 1,000 per month guaranteed for a period of two years subject to a satisfactory performance. The scholarship amount is disbursed to the student on a monthly basis from the start of an academic session.

HDF has aligned itself with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which are a new, universal set of goals, targets and indicators that countries have adopted to end poverty and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda.

The following SDGs are aligned with this program:

Goal 4. Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

Goal 5. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
