HDF’s History in Building Model Villages Following the disastrous floods of 2010, one of HDF’s major efforts has been rehabilitation work in the form of Misali Bastis (Model Villages) in the affected areas of Pakistan that are now kept maintained by the communities and HDF together. On a quest to improve livelihood in rural Pakistan, initiatives on health, safety, hygiene and clean water are carried out in these self-contained communities. These Model Villages consist of relatively high-quality housing with integrated community amenities. Model Villages Basti Makora In Partnership with: Village Basti Makora in Rahim Yar Khan has been converted into a Model Village. The completed projects are as follows: · Local Support Organization/VDO · 80 Housing Units and 1 Additional Unit Handed Over to the Government to Run a Veterinary Clinic. · Water Filtration Plant · Community Health Center (CHC) Siddique Maddo In Partnership with: Village Siddique Maddo in Tando Muhammad Khan has been converted into a Model Village. The completed projects are as follows: · Local Support Organization/VDO · 75 Housing Units · 75 Solar Power Systems. Each Unit Included 4 LED Bulbs & 1 Pedestal Fan. · 10 Solar Operated Streetlights · Solid Waste Management System · A Non-Formal School This village also provides an education facility and healthcare services to the community through the HDF Community Health Center. Budhapur In Partnership with: Village Budhapur in Tando Muhammad Khan has been converted into a Model Village. The completed projects are as follows: · Local Support Organization/VDO · 140 Housing Units · 36 Paved streets, 34 Streetlights · Water Filtration Plant · Village Bank · Children’s park and building for girls’ primary school (currently enrolls 79 female students) Thanks to VDO efforts, the government constructed a ring embankment around the village to protect it from future floods. The community has been successfully protected from any damage. Samar Bagh In Partnership with: Village Samar Bagh in Mardan has been converted into a Model Village. The completed projects are as follows: · Local Support Organization/VDO · 193 Housing Units · Paved Streets, Covered Drains & 250 Streetlights · Water Filtration Plant · Solid Waste Management System · Village Bank · Enhanced CHC’s Building Capacity and Services · Community Center · Installation of Solar Panel in CHC and Community Center for Uninterrupted Electricity · Community Health Center · School (84 Students Currently Enrolled)
