In the current economics of learning, textbooks constitute indispensable tools for building knowledge-based communities. They remain the most flexible and far-reaching medium for knowledge-sharing, especially in areas with no mobile connectivity and internet access. Without textbooks, children can spend many of their school hours copying content from the blackboard, which severely reduces the time for engaged learning. The cost of learning materials is a key barrier that prevents children from having access to education. Therefore, access to appropriate learning materials e.g. textbooks is listed as a key strategy to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all under the Sustainable Development Goal on education (SDG: 4).

Unfortunately, not everyone has access to quality education, which can perpetuate cycles of poverty and inequality. In Pakistan, an estimated 22.8 million children are out of school, with poverty and social exclusion being the main barriers to education. According to UNICEF, only 48% of children in Pakistan complete primary education, and the number drops to 25% for secondary education. Furthermore, girls are disproportionately affected, with 62% of out-of-school children being girls.

Human Development Foundation - HDF is working to address this issue by providing education opportunities to vulnerable children, including those from impoverished backgrounds and marginalized communities. We have established over 274 schools across Pakistan, providing quality education to over 100,000 children.
